Can you be a closet sociologist like you can be a ghost writer, or a wanna-be pilot?

I dunno.  Sociology was my major in college for ONE semester.  Then I went on to Anthropology for one MORE semester before reality hit me in the face.

But in my mind, I still wonder deeply about culture, humanity, and what motivates the masses.

It’s a great time to be a closet sociologist.  I’m no more or less an expert than ANYONE ELSE right now….am I right?

I’m finally seeing TV programs and commercials that reflect the world as it is today.  A lot of previously-produced TV series no longer seem believable at all.  It’s all changed.  No face masks, no lines at the grocery store…people hugging!   I’m glad to hear my fellow voice actors on  new radio/TV spots referring to “these times”…”these troubled times”,  and “challenging times”.  Personally, none of those VO opportunities have come across MY desk, but what’s new?

Since the middle of March?  One VO job.  One.

Are you waiting to get back to the “status quo”?  That’s gone, that was in 2019 BC (Before COVID).  The light at the end of the tunnel is a different shade of the spectrum than it ever was before.  Not good or bad, just different.

Will it be better or worse?  You have a say in that.  How will you adjust?

If you listen to popular news media (or even worse: take it as gospel), you would hear that this week and April in general, will be the make-or-break time for us in the effects of COVID.  True or not, it’s almost impossible, and certainly not wise to try to predict where things are going next.  But there’s no going back to BC.  No going back to the “old” normal.

The culture that’s risen up around the Alcoholics Anonymous movement over the decades has made popular the “one day at a time” credo…and it’s a good one…especially now.

it’s the same concept you’ll find in any book by Eckhard Tolle.  The only thing we have control over is the now…the moment…this minute, this hour, this day.

It’s a POV that is SO SO hard to live by in the midst of a maelstrom.  But it’s liberating.  Try it.  Just for today.  Then again tomorrow.

In the meantime, here’s a real-world tip that will help you FOR NOW.

Since ZOOM is being hacked and “ZoomBombed” these days…since their servers are all working overtime…you might wanna try a simple new/old alternative.

SKYPE is making it uber-easy to do group video meetings with no time limit, no sign-ups, no downloads, and no cost (for now).

I know, I know…some of you out there will dismiss Skype with no further consideration simply because it’s now owned by Microsoft.  I think of that as a plus, actually.  But I’m a died-in-the-wool Windows guy, too.

Here are some resources on the new offering from Skype.

I know you are pouring through your emails right now, like I am.  Some pretty awesome deals are coming down the pike, and they have substance. Sweetwater, for instance, is offering Izotope Ozone Elements 9 mastering suite for FREE right now.

…Just breathing in and breathing out and taking it one day at a time, ya know?
