Happening Backstage
Maybe I just didn’t notice. Maybe it’s an LA thing. Maybe Backstage is just moving fast BIG TIME.
Either way, this is a site you might want to check out. It has performer listings, casting advice, talent rosters, casting calls, community forums, industry info, and claims much more.
Yes, that’s a catch-all site, but they seem to pull it off pretty good…and the site is responsive & intuitive.
Another P2P?
Lately, Backstage has been pushing their casting calls pretty hard. Your first year is $99, but I have no idea how successful this site is for voice-actors. It has more of a Hollywood screen-actor vibe.
The site claims a presence in NYC, LA, and London, and offers auditions in TV, Theatre, Movies and Voiceover.

A number of prominent voice actors have gained status on the site as VO “experts” which earns them the right to submit articles and get publiished…pretty good exposure. I’m lucky to be on that list. My latest article is up as of yesterday.
Check it out: LOOKING FOR A VOICEOVER COACH? 5 RED FLAGS TO WATCH OUT FOR.
You might recognize the theme of this article if you read my blog regularly. But this offering is an updated, new-and-improved “Red Flag” cautionary tale.
I hope you find something useful there, and please feel free to share and link to it as much as you want. Backstage would appreciate it, and so would I! 🙂
Most of all, though, be sure to link to it for those you run across who are starting out their VO career, to protect them from being taken by the more predatory and unscrupulous outfits in the marketplace.
