Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
In that sense it’s a wonder no one has yet cloned ACX. It would be a tough row to hoe. After all, ACX is owned by Audible, which is owned by Amazon, and that’s a powerhouse lineage. But ACX doesn’t get EVERYTHING just right, and maybe a competitor would spice-up the marketplace a little?
If you agree, then maybe TekTime is for you.
It’s not a pure audiobooks clearinghouse for narrators and authors, but it hits a good many of those points. It’s clearly internationally-flavored, and includes some translation services. But if you’ve been frustrated that ACX wouldn’t allow you to sign-up ’cause you didn’t live in the USA, then TekTime could be the answer. Just give it a few days… the English version of their website is still “under construction”.
Haiku Deck is presentation software…no, I mean it’s really cool presentation software on your desktop/laptop/smartphone. You can buy the “pro” version, but the free version is definitely full-featured.
This is one of those sites that makes it dirt-easy to build presentations online. You get royalty-free videos, pics, templates, and hand-holding. And now they’ve added an audio component. They’re not necessarily looking for voice actors, but if you get cozy with the Haiki Deck software, and start pinging some of it’s power users, you might find a few job leads, who know?
I was a guest on podcast the other day with a host who just LOVED my book: More Than A Voice: The REAL Secret to Voiceover Success. That was flattering and all, but he also did his homework, and the podcast was fun and informative.
