In 1979 I began my broadcasting career at a Country/Western radio station in Carlsbad, NM.
Yesterday, I essentially ended it in Las Vegas.
Most of you know I’ve talked about going VO full-time for years.
On December 15, 2017, I’ll sign off for the last time as a TV news anchorman on KLAS-TV. That’ll give me 5 months to make the transition.
….only…I’ve already been working on that transition for the last 10 years.
It’s OK that I’ve only found moderate success as a voice actor in that time. There are only so many hours in the day, and the job as a news anchor let me be…well…a good provider.
But now I want to give VO a REAL shot. 8-10 hours a day or more. I wanna have all the time to market, and prospect, and audition like I never could before.
It’s also OK knowing that I was in local TV news in the best years that career had to offer. Things are changing, and I’m finding that I’m not changing so well WITH it.
If you do something long enough, it gets too easy, and when it gets to easy, you slack off, and when you slack off, you get complacent, and when you get complacent, you get sloppy.
Sloppy is no way to be excellent…and I want to be excellent in all I do.
I want to be excellent at voice-acting.
It’s time to LEAP.
