Voiceover conferences are becoming quite the thing.
It’s actually good, and a sign that our profession is coming of age.
I hosted probably what could be called the very first VO conference. It was James Alburger, Penny Abshire, and Frank Frederick’s V.O.I.C.E. conference in the Spring of 2007 in Las Vegas. Many other VOICE conferences grew out of that early beginning…all in SoCal. Then FaffCon came into its own, followed by VO Atlanta, Mid-Atlantic VO, Midwest VO, Voxy Ladies, and on and on and on.
In 2013, World-Voices Organization started its own conference, and in November of this year, we will celebrate again with our 5th annual WoVOCon in Las Vegas. Plan on coming!
But last year, we premiered a whole new concept in VO conferences: The “Mini-Con”. It is meant to be a scaled-down, more intimate version of the cluster that some conferences are now. Our first Mini-Con was held in Nashville.
Since we are “World” voices, we wanted our second Mini-Con to be reflective of our international commitment, so it’s being held in Canada…our first move across an international border.
It’s all scheduled, and registrations are being accepted.
June 9th & 10th, 2018
Here are the pluses:
- Toronto is beautiful in June
- Toronto has a vibrant VO community
- Toronto is not any farther, essentially, than Detroit
- The Canadian Dollar exchange rate benefits US Citizens
- You don’t have to be a WoVO member to attend
- It’s less expensive than the November WoVOCon (and most other VO conferences)
