Amazon Chime: ZOOM’s Newest Challenger

by | Feb 15, 2017 | Web Resources

Remember GoToMeeting?  Ugh…I hated that program.  Skype seemed to be a pretty good video conferencing tool.  Google Hangouts are still chugging along, but then Zoom.us blew up everything.

Seems like most all of the working online public is using Zoom.us for videoconferencing and webinars.  WoVO does.

So no surprise that a worthy competitor would soon raise its hand…and it’s a big hand.

Juggernaut Amazon is putting to good use its sizeable heft in the cloud realm with Amazon Chime.

Released just yesterday: Amazon Chime is a modern, secure unified communications service that makes meetings easier and more efficient than ever before. You can use Amazon Chime for online meetings, video conferencing, calls, chat, and to share content, both inside and outside your organization. With easy-to-use apps available for Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows, meetings and chats are always synchronized, you can join meetings from any device, and you can switch seamlessly between devices anytime – even in the middle of a meeting. Amazon Chime is a service offered by Amazon Web Services, where security is the highest priority, so you can feel confident you’re communicating securely.

Chime’s iOS app is already in the app store.  Pricing looks to be very competitive with Zoom.  Visiting their home page gets you going for a 30-day free account, then you can continue with their basic account for free, or explore their graduated pricing.  You’ll also find links on the home page for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows software.  ‘Installs quickly, and looks polished.

Here’s their introductory video:
