Oh, The Things You Find on Craigslist!

by | Nov 17, 2016 | Jus' So You Know, VO Business

craigslist-cPut yourself in the shoes of the person who needs a voice-actor.  Let’s say your boss told you to find someone to voice a web video for the company, and you’ve never had to find that sort of freelancer before.

Where do you go?

Aside from some obvious answers, like asking friends and colleagues for referrals, or doing a Google search, you’d be surprised how many people think next of CRAIGSLIST.

I mean, this is a hugely powerful and successful tool.  Craigslist single-handedly brought most of the newspaper industry in this country to their financial knees when it replaced the cash-cow of classified ads.

Voice actors AND producers DO connect on Craigslist.  I’m not saying it’s the best place to job hunt, or to seek prospects, but most enterprising VO’s keep an eye on Craigslist.  My most-read blog EVAR was on that very topic:   CRACKING CRAIGSLIST.

But never….NEVER had I seen an ad on Craigslist like the one below; someone seeking a voice-over agent for a budding agency in Milwaukee:

___________

We need your ears!

Do you notice voices? Like TV commercials as much as TV shows? Think of yourself as a person who really listens when people talk? Are you the team member who always thinks ahead? Looking for the next step (and the step after that) to get the event planned or the job done? Do you thrive in a small business environment, where initiative is welcome and where you are truly integral to the success or failure of the company?

We are a boutique voiceover talent agency seeking an individual who has their ears (and eyes) wide-open. Someone who enjoys talking with other people in person and on the phone. Someone comfy discussing project rates and guiding clients of varying experience levels through the production process. And, someone who isn’t afraid to navigate the minutia, especially when it comes to contracts. We need someone who loves nailing the details and never drops the ball, when many are in the air. A systems thinker. We need someone who loves taking care of people, understands what customer service means and isn’t afraid to speak up. Do you want to help change the world of advertising for the better? Do you have the social media know-how to tell our story? Are you the smart, positive team player we need?

Details:

Our ideal team-member must have ad agency or media production experience. This is a full-time position, reporting daily to our casual, fun office in the Sellwood neighborhood of SE Portland. Wage is $16 to $19 per hour depending on experience. Full paid health benefits (dental, vision and alternative care), matching 401k and 2 weeks paid vacation after 3 months. Must love cats and all that comes with them — we have two rescues in our office.

Please send us your resumé and include your answer to the question: What is your favorite voiceover on a currently running TV commercial [name or link to YouTube video] and why?

We’d love to respond to everyone, but since that might not be possible, thank you in advance for taking the time to reach out and tell us about yourself. We appreciate it!

No phone calls or visits please. We will remove this post when interviews are closed.

  • Principals only. Recruiters, please don’t contact this job poster.
  • do NOT contact us with unsolicited services or offers
