The Scariest Thing About Voice-Acting Today

by | Oct 31, 2016 | Ramblings/Off-Topic, VO Business

monsterThe internet created a monster.

Like Frankenstein — if we lose control of the thing we’ve created — well, things turn bad in the end.

BUT, the internet also gave us a gift…many gifts.  And if we use them cleverly, we can avoid the villagers with pitchforks and torches.

What monster did the internet create for voice-acting?  Go figure:  it freed us from time and place — opened up the marketplace — gave us new tools.  That sounds pretty good!  What’s so monstrous about all that?

Well, the monster is NOT using it to our advantage, MIS-using the tools, FAILING to be agile enough to stay with the pell-mell pace of change, being BLIND to the opportunities.

Unfortunately, the monster also comes in plain clothes from within.  Those who take advantage of the good will and trust of others…preying on the community.

Go ahead, tremble in your shoes, scream if you have to, then grit your teeth and grab your GhostBuster Proton Pack and Particle Thrower, cause the internet is only going to get more ubiquitous (the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence), and with that it’ll bring even more opportunities for voice-actors.

Nothing will calm the monster more than the creator’s voice.
