Studio Visit

Here’s a shout-out to a new friend I just met in person.

Dave Kaplan, a former broadcaster, and Long Island-based voice-actor called a couple of weeks ago.
He was going to be in Las Vegas, and wanted to know if I could help him arrange for ISDN facilities in case a client needed his services during the few days he was here.  Apparently, he found my name on a a list of studios nationwide which are ISDN-ready.

“It’s not pretty,” I said, “but you can use my humble closet-cum-studio for free.”  My walk-in P1030344 closet which is converted into a whisper-room has ISDN, but it’s a little crowded, and you have to stand.  It works for me, but I worry when others come to use it…so I’ll get out the dust cloth, and actually try to make it look like there’s some semblance of order to things.

cropped As it turns out, David didn’t need to use ISDN while he was here, but he DID come by the TV station for a visit, and to watch my 5pm newscast about a week ago.  It was only a hop, skip, and a jump from his room at the Encore to the KLAS-TV studios…about a block away.

He brought his friend, Wendy, and during the nickel tour we exchanged a lot of VO shop-talk…but overall, I know I’m blessed to have made one more friend in this business, and learned a lot in the process.

I never cease to be amazed at the level of talent and friendliness exhibited by voice actors.  A unique, gifted, and creative community of individuals.
