Common Sense

When composing stories of the genre:  "News you can use", TV reporters and producers will often resort to the phrase "…just use your common sense…"

I love that one…'cause we all know 75% of the viewing public DOES NOT HAVE common sense.  If they did, would they be watching local news?

Barnes & Noble is a dangerous place for me.  If I had common sense, I wouldn't even go in, but there I was searching for a copy of John Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men' for my daughter's English reading assignment yesterday.

Being void of common sense, I also walked out with a book by Robert Green called " The 48 Laws of Power".

Don't ask.  It had a pretty cover.

The book is better suited for Vladimir Putin than mild-mannered voice actor Dave Courvoisier.  I mean, can I really apply RULE #7 to voice-acting?
"GET OTHERS TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU, BUT ALWAYS TAKE THE CREDIT."

No, but I think maybe RULE #25 might have application:
"RE-CREATE YOURSELF"  "Do not accept the roles that society foists on you.  Re-create yourself by forging a new identity, one that commands attention and never bores the audience.  Be the master of your own image rather than letting others define it for you."

There's more, but it got to sounding practically Medieval.

I'm not on a power trip, but I like the idea of being the master of my own image.

When you think about it…isn't that what marketing is all about…reputation, identity, validity, character, image, keywords, Google Analytics?

By the way; I love my Amazon Kindle, and spend hours every day in the virtual world, but is there any more reassuring real-world feeling than thumbing through an honest-to-goodness book with paper and ink and a binding?

That's a paradigm that may never ever really go away.

It's 3:52am.  If I had any common sense, I'd go to bed now.

Thanks for indulging me this far.

The master of your own image? Bwah – that’s what photoshop is for ūüėČ
Anyway – I tried going the 100% paperless environment route with e-books, but found myself yearning for the smell and feel of paper. I think psychologically, we don’t believe it until it’s on paper.
Thanks for sharing the book info!
    PEACE.
